Backing Up Your Site Using cPanel Backup Wizard

One of the easiest (and most overlooked) ways to protect your website is by creating regular backups—and cPanel’s Backup Wizard makes it surprisingly simple.

Here’s a quick walkthrough if you’ve never used it before:

  1. Log into cPanel
Scroll down to the Files section and click on Backup Wizard.
  2. Choose Full or Partial Backup
    • Full Backup: Includes your home directory, databases, email forwarders, and filters. Best for restoring your whole site or migrating.
    • Partial Backup: Lets you download just what you need—your files, databases, or email settings.
  3. Generate & Download the Backup
For full backups, select “Home Directory” as the destination, enter your email to get notified when it’s ready, and click Generate Backup. Once it’s complete, download the file to your local machine or cloud storage.
  4. Restoring (if needed)
You can also restore your site from here by uploading a previously saved partial backup. Just choose the appropriate option—home directory, database, or email—and upload the file.

That’s it. No complex setup, no extra tools—just a few clicks to give yourself peace of mind.

I recommend scheduling a reminder to do this weekly or after major site changes. You never think you’ll need a backup… until you do.
